Norwegian International School is situated in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria. Port Harcourt is an industrial town, located in the southern part of Nigeria. It is also a major oil producing city in the region.

The Norwegian International School began in 1983 with two teachers and approximately twelve students.

The school was founded in order to meet the needs of the expatriates staff working for Eastern Bulkcem Cement Company.

As the years went by NIS grew and children from other companies began to attend NIS. Today the school is multicultural and enriched with different nationalities. The school caters to the needs of children from the ages of 3 to 16 years.
